Are you looking for your next favourite book? Look no further! On Sunday 22nd November, we’re hosting a fun-filled event with four fabulous authors at our bookshop.
These authors’ books are aimed at children aged 4-14+, the event is free to attend and we’ll be starting from 1pm.
Sonia Saada will be joining us to talk about her children’s book If the Sea Was Ink, which follows a mother and daughter as they leave their loved ones for safety, travelling the land and sea until they find a new place to call home. This heartfelt book is perfect for readers aged 4+. Sonia Saada is a British Egyptian author and poet, who believes deeply in the holistic power of storytelling. Growing up between cultures, Sonia crafts stories that inspire imagination, nurture empathy and motivate young readers to recognise the positive impact they can have in the world. Her debut children’s book, If the Sea was Ink, beautifully explores themes of identity, kindness and social change, gently introducing children to the realities of forced displacement, separation and the importance of compassion. Dedicated to nurturing curious and compassionate minds, Sonia’s work invites readers—whether in the classroom or at home—to listen thoughtfully, ask questions freely and care deeply. Her warm and insightful voice continues to encourage a new generation to approach the world with open hearts and inquisitive minds.
Lisa Thompson is the best-selling author of numerous books for children. Her debut novel, The Goldfish Boy, was nominated for many awards including the Carnegie Medal and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and has been published in multiple languages. Lisa has written more critically acclaimed books including the novella, Owen and the Soldier, which was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award. The Times called her “One of our most inventive writers for children.” Lisa will be coming along to the bookshop to discuss her books, for readers aged 7+.
New York Times bestselling author Jordon Lees will be coming along to talk about his debut The Whisperwicks: The Labrinth of Lost and Found, as well as the follow-up The Impossible Trials, which are the first two books in an exciting and original fantasy series for readers aged 8-12. Jordan Lees was born in Scotland but grew up in Essex, where he still lives with his wife and young daughter. Having devoured stories all through childhood, Jordan then studied literature at university and worked in publishing prior to becoming an author.
Sunday Times bestselling author Bea Fitgerald, will also be joining us at the shop. Bea’s bestselling debut Girl, Goddess, Queen was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and won the Romantic Novelists’ Association Fantasy Romance of the Year. Her follow-up, The End Crowns All, was an instant bestseller, and was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize 2025. Her third YA novel, A Beautiful Evil, was also an instant bestseller. Bea’s work has been translated widely across the globe, and when she’s not writing, she’s entertaining her followers on TikTok and Instagram with her mythology-themed comedy account @chaosonolympus.
