Get ready for another Summer at Prom Park with The Book Hut!

Join us for our grand opening on Saturday 3rd June, where we’ll be celebrating our Book Hut’s third year at the Prom!

This year is a special one for us, as our little bookshop has had a huge makeover behind the scenes, which we’ll be unveiling at the opening.

We’re also thrilled to welcome back Nick Butterworth, author of the Percy the Park Keeper series, to our grand opening too! Nick will be cutting the ribbon from 10am, and signing copies of his book afterwards. Nick’s books will be available to purchase at the event.

At 12pm we’ll be hosting a big Park Picnic at the Book Hut, where we’ll have a story time session for children (and cake too!) We’ll also have lots of lovely goodies to giveaway, including signed Julia Donaldson and Stephen Mangan bookplates kindly donated by Scholastic publishing, as well as a few surprises of our own.

We can’t quite believe this will be our Book Hut’s third year at the park! What started as a lockdown project has since become a huge addition to our bookshop that we look forward to opening every year. We’re committed to offering lower priced books at the Book Hut, free activities and events for everyone, and a place to retreat to when the weather’s nice.

We really hope you’ll celebrate with us, we’d love to see you there!

10am – Ribbon cutting with Nick Butterworth, followed by a book signing

12pm – Park Picnic with Story Time, giveaway goodies and cake!

Upcoming events!

June is looking to be a jam-packed month full of fantastic events to look forward to! From book signings to author talks, to our first Open Mic Night, we're so excited to share this upcoming events programme with you.

Thursday 8th June - Evening talk and book signing with Kate Sawyer, where Kate will join us at the bookshop to discuss her new novel, 'This Family.'

Saturday 10th June - Book signing with local author, Hannah Lynn, who will be in store signing copies of her latest book, 'It's Never too Late' (set in Maldon too!)

Thursday 15th June - Tim Burrows in conversation with Gillian Darley at the bookshop, discussing Tim's new book, 'The Invention of Essex.'

Thursday 22nd June - Literary Lounge Open Mic Night at Ginny's Cocktail Lounge - if you're a writer, poet, reader or performer, we'd love for you to join us at our first Open Mic evening!

Friday 23rd June - Night Owls late night browsing with live music from harpist, Rhiannon Clayton. Come by for 10% off all purchases between 6pm - 8pm, prosecco and beautiful music whilst you peruse our bookcases.
