This new edition of Charlie Mackesy's bestselling book celebrates the work of over 100 animators across two years of production - with Charlie's illustrations brought to life in full colour with hand drawn animation and accompanying handwritten script.

This Christmas, Charlie's book will be hitting the screens as a short animated film on BBC One, with the book's beloved characters voiced by Idris Elba, Gabriel Byrne, Tom Hollander and Jude Coward Nicholl.

To celebrate the publication of this lovely edition, we were gifted this signed copy by @eburybooks to celebrate World Kindness Day on the 13th November, and we hope to spread a little kindness to one lucky winner!

Our Christmas windows are here!

The biggest thank you to @ourtinywindows for another beautiful painting in our shop window. We were so lucky to meet Ash and Holly in September for our special window for Dan Jones' book, Essex Dogs, and we loved their work so much that we had to invite them back again!

Having opened nearly 3 years ago without much to put in our windows (or many books to put on the shelves!) we decorated the shop at Christmas with pretty much anything we could find at home! You might still find the little woodland animals we've got dotted about the shop, and this year we really wanted to celebrate the things close to our hearts. Ash and Holly came up with this beautiful design, and given our love of animals (especially the ones who have been here since day one!) we absolutely said "yes please!"

We're so happy to have another lovely window painted by such a talented pair, and we hope you love it just as much as we do!

For our second window, we chose to recreate the beautiful illustrations of @zannagoldhawk ✨️ We've always admired Zanna's artwork, and you can find her Christmas cards in our shop, alongside the RHS book of Christmas cards and envelopes (a lovely do it yourself Christmas card activity pack) featuring Zanna's woodland illustrations.

You can pop down and see our windows for yourself tomorrow night at the Christmas Fayre, where we'll have a Christmas stall out the front, and local authors signing books all afternoon and evening!

Festivities are on the horizon!

We're so looking forward to celebrating Christmas with you this year, and we've got lots of exciting things to tell you about!

Next Thursday at the Maldon Christmas Fayre, we'll be joined by three fabulous local authors for an evening book signing at our shop! We can't wait to welcome Wanda Whiteley, Barrie Jaimeson and Owen W Knight to our bookshop on one of our favourite nights of the year! They'll be signing copies of their latest books at 7pm, and there's plenty of events, traders and local businesses open late across Maldon from 4pm - see you there!

We're also celebrating our third birthday on Saturday 10th December, and we'd love for you to join us! We'll be offering 10% off all our books all day long, and staying open until 7.30pm for a bookshop birthday party! Join us for drinks, food and live music from our lovely friend, Eve, from 5pm ❤️ all welcome!

And finally, we've got a range of services on offer this Christmas to make things a little easier for you, where we can. Whether that's quiet browsing or personal shopping, we've got you covered! We can't quite believe our shop is nearly three years old! How quickly that time has gone, and how brilliant it has been to be here in Maldon. We really can't wait to see you this Christmas and thank you for your support over the years, it's been tremendous.

✨️ Event! ✨️

We're so pleased to host a very special evening with John Buchanan, the author of 'Wildlife of Maldon,' one of our bestselling books of 2021.

John will be presenting an illustrated talk on the remarkable natural history of our town at The Blue Boar, on Thursday 17th November.

Based on two decades of observation, he will discuss what species can be found in Maldon throughout the year, from butterflies to seals and from orchids to barn owls.

John will also be happy to answer questions about the best places locally to see the different species mentioned.

This is a perfect opportunity to learn a little more about Maldon's rich natural history, and we'll have plenty of copies of John's book available to purchase at the event too.

Tickets are £5 and you can buy them directly in the shop or from our EventBrite page (link is in the bio!)
