An Evening with Skye McAlpine
We’re so pleased to welcome cookery writer, Skye McAlpine, to Maldon this March, in celebration of her newly published cookbook, A Table Full of Love.
Skye McAlpine’s third cookbook, A Table Full of Love, explores the connection between food and love. It’s both a recipe book and a celebration of the many different love stories that make up our lives, with over 100 simple, do-able recipes to comfort, seduce, nourish and spoil friends, family and loved ones, as well as ourselves, accompanied by Skye’s thoughtfully written chapter introductions and her evocative photography. A Table Full of Love is a book to cherish and cook from time and time again.
Drawing on her postgraduate studies of ancient love poetry, Skye’s inspiration comes from the nuanced characterisation of love in Ancient Greek literature, where ‘love’ is never a generic feeling, but always has a name and a distinct identity, such as Philia (friendship), Ludus (flirtation) and Pragma (family love). With each chapter, Skye explores a different kind of love and offers recipes to match it: Comfort (friendship and recipes for mending heartbreak), Seduce (romance and recipes to make someone fall in love with you), Nourish (unconditional love and recipes for all the family), Spoil (affection and recipes for edible gifts) and Cocoon (self-love and recipes ‘just’ for one).
Skye McAlpine is a cookery writer who believes that food tastes best when shared with others. She is the author of two other books, A Table in Venice and A Table for Friends, writes a monthly column for The Sunday Times and has contributed to publications from around the world, including vogue.com, Vanity Fair, Corriere della Serra and Conde Nast Traveller.
Skye will be joining us for a unique event at Ginny’s Cocktail Lounge, where she will discuss her new cookbook and demonstrate a special recipe from A Table Full of Love for attendees to enjoy. Your ticket will also include a complimentary drink on arrival, A Very Sexy Cocktail, from Skye’s recipe book (and yes, it’s just as good as it sounds!) Ginny’s will also be offering a tailored cocktail menu at the event, including drinks from Skye’s previous book, A Table for Friends. Copies of A Table Full of Love will be available to purchase at the event, where you will also have the opportunity to have your book signed by Skye too.
