Celebrate Independent Bookshop Week with us!

We’ve got a whole host of events taking place at Maldon Books for Independent Bookshop Week!

Saturday 17th June:

Card-making and storytelling with author, Ruby Wright!

Join us in store at 2pm for an interactive card-making session and storytelling with author and illustrator, Ruby Wright!

Ruby will be visiting us for a special event to mark the start of Independent Bookshop Week. She’ll be hosting a card-making session in store for children, and reading from her new book, ‘Animal Crackers.’ We’ll also have copies available for you to purchase and get signed by Ruby herself!

Maisie’s head is full of animal facts! She desperately wants a pet of her own, but Mum says their flat is too small. Luckily a packet of animal crackers is about to grant Maisie’s wish. But as a whole zoo-full of animals come to stay there are some unexpected results. (Well… Mum expected them.) This exciting debut mixes fantasy and wish fulfilment with the reality of modern children’s lives.

We’ve got 100 £5 National Book Tokens to give away on this day too! Our first 100 customers will receive one £5 National Book Token with the purchase of a book (one Book Token per customer) These tokens will be split between our bookshop and The Book Hut! Make sure to visit us early so you don’t miss out on yours! 

Thursday 22nd June:

Open Mic Night at Ginny’s Cocktail Lounge!

We’re hosting our first Open Mic Night at our favourite cocktail bar in Maldon! Join us for an evening of spoken word, storytelling and poetry from local writers, poets and performers. Friday 23rd June:

After hours browsing, live music and 10% off all purchases in store!

Join us for late-night browsing and live music from local musician, Rhiannon Hitt. We’ll be serving drinks and refreshments, and offering 10% off all our books and in store products too. This event will take place between 6pm-8pm. Free to attend and all are welcome!

 

Saturday 24th June

Free ‘proof’ with every purchase at our bookshop and The Book Hut!

Take a look through our proof racks at both our bookshop and The Book Hut! Proofs are advanced reading copies we’re sent ahead of book publication, and we offer ours for free on Independent Bookshop Week. There’s a limited supply, so make sure you visit us early to get your free book with any purchase!

 

9th June – 24th June

The Big Book Drop with The Children’s Book Project!

Some of the UK’s most loved independent bookshops are combining forces with volunteer-powered charity, The Children’s Book Project, to tackle book poverty among children in their local communities. Independent bookshops and the Children’s Book Project both work closely within local communities to spread the magic of reading, and are united in the ethos of this campaign to share pre-loved books with children who may not have the means to own their own books.

This June, customers are invited to donate their pre-loved children’s books with their local independent bookshop. These gently-used books will then be carefully sorted and gifted to children who live within that shop’s community and who may have very few books of their own. This year’s Big Book Drop is focussing on the idea of passing the magic of stories on to local families and gifting
books onwards when it’s time to turn the page, so a new chapter with a new owner can begin.

Please bring your gently-used children’s books along to our shop at any point between now and the 24th June. We have a collection point at our till.
